Thermacut® EX-TRAFIRE® plasma power sources feature many advantages, and we are proud of them. In this article we briefly present some of the main advantages over competing products.
INTEGRATED GRID MODE
All our power sources feature an integrated GRID mode which means automatic switching between the pilot arc and the main arc. There is no need to push a switch to turn on the main arc again when the torch is positioned to cut the material.
HIGHER POWER SOURCE OUTPUT
For example, thanks to its “extraboost” feature, the EX-TRAFIRE® 75 and 100SD plasma sources can supply input torch voltages up to the value of 220 VDC. The higher the voltage between the electrode and the cut material, the longer the arc will run without being extinguished or switched to the pilot arc. This enables cutting in hard-to-reach areas and cutting material of greater thickness than with power supplies of competing suppliers. The output power is not only related to the maximum current, but also to the voltage that the power supply can provide. A formula based on Ohm's law is valid: P= V × I (power output = voltage x current)
100% DUTY CYCLE
The duty cycle (DZ) of a plasma power supply is one of the basic parameters that expresses the ratio of maximum possible cutting time to the total working time without any power supply overheating.
EX-TRAFIRE®75SD features 100% duty cycle, which makes it a flagship not only among our power supplies but even among competing power supplies. They usually feature only 80% duty cycle at full power.
LOW WEIGHT
Our power supplies are considerably lighter. The EX-TRAFIRE®75SD weighs only 24 kgs! The competing power supplies weigh about 32 kgs.
SAFETY ELEMENTS
The EX-TRAFIRE® power supplies feature many safety elements. Cheaper competitors do not have these safety elements.
- Self-check after system start-up. The power remains disconnected until the power supply operating system checks for any possible defects.
- Torch safety elements include a “Cap sensor”, checking for short-circuits between parts, checking for torch switch pressed when the power supply is turned on, etc.
GOUGING FEATURE
EX-TRAFIRE®75SD and 100SD offer a gouging feature. It is used for material preparation before welding and removal of defects or old welds.
The EX-TRAFIRE® SD series is a professional series of plasma power supplies suitable for full service in industrial production. It cannot be compared in any way to cheap plasma power supplies made for occasional cutting (low duty cycle etc.) that are sometimes offered in various hobby markets or food supermarkets. Such cheap plasma power supplies often have no protection for consumable parts when the arc is ignited by electrode-material contact. This substantially shortens the lifetime of consumable parts and can affect the operator´s safety!
